SRH Snap Up Gerald Coetzee as David Payne Replacement

Injury woes hit Sunrisers hard, but Cummins is back to lead the charge!

CricPlay1 min read

Sunrisers Hyderabad are shaking things up in IPL 2026, signing South African speedster Gerald Coetzee to replace the injured David Payne. Payne has had a lacklustre run, managing just two wickets in two matches before an ankle injury sidelined him. Enter Coetzee, who’s got some serious international pedigree with 67 wickets across all formats. He’s previously donned the colours of Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, bagging 15 scalps in 14 games.

But that's not all—SRH have been hit hard by injuries. England allrounder Brydon Carse is out with a hand injury, prompting them to recruit Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement. Thankfully, there’s good news for the side as captain Pat Cummins is back on deck after recovering from a back issue. He could make his much-anticipated return against Rajasthan Royals on April 25.

Currently sitting fifth on the points table with two wins from five outings, SRH needs to find their groove again. They face Chennai Super Kings next, and with Coetzee in the squad, fans will be hoping for a turnaround. Can this new signing spark a winning streak?
