Rajasthan Royals coach backs young talent after his golden duck in IPL 2026.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have faced a harsh reality check with a golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but Kumar Sangakkara isn’t sweating it. The Rajasthan Royals head coach delivered a refreshing message: failure is part of the game. Sangakkara urged the 15-year-old to enjoy every moment, whether it’s a blistering 100 or a first-ball dismissal.
"You’re allowed to fail, it’s part and parcel of cricket," Sangakkara said. Sooryavanshi has shown flashes of brilliance, scoring 200 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 263.15. His aggressive style is a double-edged sword, and Sangakkara believes that such setbacks are simply the nature of T20 cricket.
The coach emphasised that Sooryavanshi’s ability to read the game and anticipate bowlers is a strength. As the Royals gear up to face Kolkata Knight Riders next, Sangakkara is keen to see the young talent bat without pressure. "Sometimes the less said, the better," he added.
Despite the slip-up, Sooryavanshi's journey is just beginning. With the right mindset, he can bounce back and develop into a formidable player in the IPL and beyond.
