Why Ahmedabad Is the IPL Final’s Go-To Venue Again

Ahmedabad hosts its third consecutive IPL final—here's the scoop!

Ahmedabad is set to roll out the red carpet for the IPL final for the third year in a row, and the fourth time in five seasons. Since opening its doors in 2020, the Narendra Modi Stadium has become the crown jewel of cricket, also hosting two World Cup finals. This year’s playoffs will be a whirlwind across three venues, but Ahmedabad remains the main stage for the big show.

Traditionally, the IPL final takes place at the home ground of the previous year's champions. That custom has been a bit wobbly in the past, especially with the pandemic shaking things up. But with Gujarat Titans lifting the trophy in 2022, they set the scene for another Ahmedabad showdown. Last year's final saw GT nearly clinching back-to-back titles, only to be thwarted by the Chennai Super Kings.

The BCCI had initially earmarked Bengaluru to host the final, but after a series of unfortunate events, including a tragic stampede and local political wrangling over VIP tickets, the venue was shifted to Ahmedabad. Despite the drama, the BCCI didn't provide much insight into the decision-making process, leaving fans buzzing with questions.

With the IPL's ever-changing landscape, one thing's for sure: Ahmedabad is cementing its status as the premier venue for this thrilling tournament. Can the city continue its streak or will we see a shift in future seasons?
