Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the teenage prodigy lighting up IPL 2026, is now at the centre of a serious controversy. Karnataka-based activist CM Shivakumar Nayak has threatened legal action against Rajasthan Royals, alleging that the 15-year-old is being exploited as a child labourer. Nayak raised his concerns on a Kannada news channel, emphasising that Sooryavanshi should be focusing on his education rather than playing in a high-pressure league.
Despite the uproar, Sooryavanshi's cricketing feats can't be overlooked. He currently stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL 2026, boasting 404 runs with an impressive average of 40.40 and a staggering strike rate of 237.65. His rise has been meteoric, having secured an IPL contract at just 13, making him the youngest player ever to do so.
Nayak's remarks have sparked a fierce debate about child rights in sports, with the activist demanding that Sooryavanshi be kept out of IPL action.
