KKR Sacks Nayar, McCullum Set to Return as Head Coach

After a dismal IPL start, KKR looks to revive fortunes with a familiar face.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in a right pickle, sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2026 table with just one point from six matches. Fans and analysts are pointing fingers at head coach Abhishek Nayar for this abysmal showing. But it seems the franchise is ready to make a bold move to shake things up.

Enter Kevin Pietersen, who’s dropped a bombshell on social media, hinting that Brendon McCullum, the franchise’s former star and head coach, is set to return. Pietersen tweeted, "Baz McCullum will be the coach of the franchise next season. Bookmark this tweet.” Considering McCullum's legendary status at KKR, this could be the spark they need.

McCullum, who made history with a blistering 158 in KKR's inaugural match back in 2008, has a storied legacy with the team. He not only played a pivotal role in their first championship but also guided them to the IPL final in 2021. Currently, he’s got his hands full with the England team, but if KKR’s management has their way, he could soon be back on the KKR bench.

With the season still young, fans will be hoping McCullum can bring back the winning mentality that KKR has missed. Can he turn the tide for this struggling franchise?
