Gujarat Titans coach calls it a ‘horrible day’ after 99-run defeat.
Gujarat Titans’ batting coach Matthew Hayden didn’t hold back after his side’s shocking 99-run defeat to Mumbai Indians. Chasing a hefty target of 200, GT crumbled for just 100 runs in under 16 overs. Hayden pointed out that when you see your middle order exposed within the powerplay, you know things have gone horribly wrong.
The Titans lost their first two wickets for a mere five runs, and captain Shubman Gill followed soon after. This forced finishers like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan to bat far earlier than intended. "It was just a horrible day for us today," Hayden lamented, adding that the middle order’s early arrival was a disaster waiting to happen.
Hayden emphasised the need for a solid top-order performance, stating that it should never reach a point where finishers are having to rescue the innings. Despite a strong run of form leading into this match, this defeat leaves GT struggling in sixth place with only six points. Can they bounce back in their next outing?
