Should Mumbai Indians bench Bumrah for a much-needed breather?
Jasprit Bumrah is having a shocker of a season in IPL 2026, and former cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy is calling out the Mumbai Indians management. After yet another wicketless performance against Lucknow Super Giants, where he went for 45 runs, Krishnamurthy believes it’s time for MI to have a heart-to-heart with Bumrah. She suggested they ask him if he needs a break to recharge. With just three wickets in ten matches and an economy rate that’s gone above eight, the concerns about Bumrah’s form are mounting.
Despite Bumrah's struggles, MI still pulled off a six-wicket win against LSG, thanks to a firecracker opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who put on 143 runs. But former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar chimed in, stressing that MI's management needs to consider the long-term effects of Bumrah's current form. If MI is okay with finishing lower in the points table, perhaps it's time to rest their star bowler.
With the next clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru looming on May 10, MI has some tough decisions to make. Will they risk Bumrah's fitness or give him the break he might desperately need?
