Ruturaj Gaikwad: Pressure Mounts as CSK Struggles

Ravichandran Ashwin calls out Gaikwad's mental game after SRH defeat.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in a pickle, and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is feeling the heat. After a couple of wins, they stumbled against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), losing by 10 runs on April 18. Gaikwad’s struggles are glaring, with just 82 runs from six matches at an average of 13.66. That’s not the kind of form you want leading your side in a title chase.

Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t hold back, saying Gaikwad missed a golden chance to flex his batting skills. With Ayush Mhatre on fire, scoring quickly, Gaikwad had the perfect platform to settle in and build momentum. Instead, he fell after just 19 runs from 13 balls, playing an uncharacteristic pull shot that led to his downfall. Ashwin noted that Gaikwad seems mentally cluttered, which isn’t ideal for a key player under pressure.

CSK kicked off the season with three losses but found a brief spark with two wins. However, their recent defeat against SRH has put them in a tight spot, sitting seventh on the table with a negative net run rate. With their next clash against Mumbai Indians on April 23, all eyes will be on Gaikwad to see if he can shake off the pressure and lead his team back to form.
